It's the People, Stupid!!!

Maria Perrella

Maria is a financial manager for Spar Canada, the company famous for the Canadian Space Arm, You know the "thingy" used with the US Space Shuttle. It goes to show that a person such as Maria who has the ability, skills and knowledge can move from a small company and become successful in a large organization.

I was shocked when I heard that she was leaving to go to Spar. She was the backbone of the Accounting Team. She was the Team's heart and sole. It had nothing to do with her title. She was truly the Leader. She built and nurtured that team. This was true of ALL Team Leaders at the time.

She can be proud in knowing that her people have in turn moved on to bigger and better things.

The last major project we had worked together on was the selection and implementation of a new accounting software package. There are not to many business people who can detail exactly what they want let alone explain what they want. It is typically the Tech's who are trying to elicit and extract the requirements. A painful process taking weeks if not months. Well you haven't met Maria. She captured it all, even writing out the RFP in a couple of weeks.. All I had to do was the technical side of the RFP and install the stuff.. Maria, you would have made a great Tech.

She can be proud choosing a package that would easily met all the needs of IMG for the next 5 years. I too am proud because Systems Union's, SunSystem software was scalable both horizontally and vertically. The bonus was it was easy and cheap to manage.

I was impressed with her unwaivering work ethic and dedication. She did whatever it took to get the job done. Working late is a natural thing to say these days. But try working 60, 70 even 80 hours a week year in year out.

I have learned some things from her that I use today. Thanks Maria and all the best. Maybe you can get Spar to paint my name in the heavens. You know, like they do at air shows.

Sorry, on a side note. Glenda, if you're out there. I will admit to getting Maria hammered.
