Guy and I started on a somewhat rocky start. From my view point, he wasn't a team player. His perspective was that I was playing
Favoritism and not delegating properly. The funny thing was that we wanted what was the best for the Team and company except that some of our opinions and how to get there
differed. Sounds like politicians, absolutely.
I setup a meeting with him at the favorite Tech hangout to discuss and hopefully resolve our "differences". The approach was to
have Guy identify three things that he thought I could improve on and visa versa. We had agreed that in a month we would meet again to see if each had made any progress. You know,
we never didn't meet again probably because we knew that we didn't have to. But I know that we had grown and gained a great deal of respect for one another.
Hindsight is always 20/20. Guy never did receive the recognition for his contributions. He was the one who raised the red flags when
Product Support was getting underway. I admit I knew the symptoms were there but I was so focused on steam rolling ahead that I missed the boat.
To show you his initiative. He developed a marketing launch plan for The Night Exchange. It stands today as the most successful
launch plan in IMG's history. Not bad for a Tech.
He has always shown a great thirst for knowledge. He started learning UNIX at home. Guy now leads a programming team for
Hewitt and Associates. I am happy knowing that you have
achieved the recognition and reached this goal. Funny enough he is one of my references. I
would honestly be happy to work with him again, even if he were the boss.
