It's the People, Stupid!!!

SAS CEO Dr. Jim Goodnight commented on 60 Minutes, "You know, I guess 95% of my assets drive out the front gate every evening. It's my job to bring them back."

Rob Tolman

Initially I didn't think he was anything special. His personality basically fit that of a programmer. But I consider myself the luckiest person for somehow hiring him. We really lucked out. Rob can consider himself in an elite group. It is unfortunate that none of the founding non-share holding alumni or shareholders for that matter had an opportunity to work with him.

Rob really represents the next generation of IT people. He is technically well rounded, learning and applying all he can about new technologies. For example, setting up his own proxy and WEB server at home and IMG's IS's intranet. Most won't know it unless they talked to him but he has strong business sense.

Here check out his site tupp.net OR just see his ugly mug.

You know people characterize men/women as being overhead. Well, I'll use the same analogy. There's definitely no overhead or pampering with Rob. You give him something and he'll run with it.

Rob help make real-time 900 risk management a reality. That's right - real-time. Most companies would die and kill for this because of the affects on the bottom line.  Get this, we did it in roughly 3 months. NO BULL.

Personally, Rob is just a really nice guy. He has many outside interest. He gardens, growing different veggies but most memorable are his delicious tomatoes. I admire any guy who can cook, probably because I'm cooking inept. Try Rob's lasagna sometime. I don't know how he finds the time to stay in shape. I guess it just comes down to being pretty organized.

I am proud to tout his abilities and character because he'd probably won't do it himself. I hope that those at IMG will be able to appreciate and foster his talent and bring it to it's full potential.

In terms of our working relationship, I will miss our chiding and bad jokes.

After all these years, he's still at Lavalife.
