Excuses Excuses

As a PM, check in with people on a weekly or daily process to see how things are going instead of waiting until a "task" is due to be completed. No use being surprised and hearing one of the top excuses. But remember, don't be a hoverer.

The best solution for eliminating junior kindergargen excuses is to state explicitly that each team member is responsible for meeting their deadlines and that if things are behind schedule to notify you. When to should you do this? After the schedule has been agreed to.

Top reasons why tasks, processes and/or projects are not implemented.

  1. That's not the way we've always done it.
  2. I didn't know you were in a hurry for it.
  3. That's not in my department.
  4. No one told me to go ahead.
  5. I'm waiting for an Okay.
  6. That's his job, not mine.
  7. Wait 'til the boss comes back and ask him.
  8. I forgot.
  9. I didn't think it was very important.
  10. I'm so busy I just can't get around to it.
  11. I thought I told you.
  12. I wasn't hired to do that.
